So this is something that I used to struggle with constantly. With having to mix chemicals all the time, it was a pain in my ass. Hopefully this helps, at least a little, for those who struggle with it or helps someone looking for an easier way than what they are using.
Searching online shows some pretty weird and hard to understand equations. I don't know how common this method is, but here it is! To start with you need to decide what dilution ratio you are needing and what you are going to be putting it into, like a 32oz bottle, oz gallon jug, or any other containers that you know the ounces of.
Lets say we want to make a 32oz bottle with a ratio 4 parts water and 1 part chemical. We know that 32oz is the total ounces that we can put into that bottle, so lets figure out what parts need to be chemical and water. The way that I do this is that I simply add the ratio numbers together. So this means that we would need to put in 6. Let's check the math on that to be sure.
So this checks out! Now lets do a ratio for a 32oz bottle. Then we divide 32oz by 8 and we get 4oz. So put 4 ounces of chemical into the bottle and fill the rest with water for a ratio. How about a ratio for 32oz bottle? So now lets say we want to use a gallon container. The first thing to know is that a gallon is oz. The process is exactly the same as the 32oz way. Then we take oz and divide that by 6 and we get So put Lets do a ratio.
Then we divide oz by 21 and that gives us 6.

Using the following formula. Therefore our formula to determine the appropriate percentage of alcohol is:. So no matter what size bottle you have fill If you want to determine the percentage of water just take the difference between the Each bottle should then contain Each bottle is marked with a black line to where this You are now going to want to fill each bottle to this line with water.

After filling the bottle with You can also take a look at the table below for complete dilution information on multiple size bottles! Hopefully this information was helpful in answering some of your questions about diluting isopropyl alcohol! Now you post this cheat sheet after I did the calculations myself last weekend…Thanks a lot. Seriously, this will help some folks for sure. Just printed the chart out too.Icecast letsencrypt
Thanks again. Is water distilled the only thing that willmreduce the alcohol percentage? If so, by how much? Do I need to start with a higher percentage so the end result maintains at least 60 or will using 70 accomplish it as well?
There are no other flammable ingredients. For 1 to 10, you will have 11 total parts. If you want your final volume to be 16 oz, divide 16 oz by That equals roughly 1. One thing to keep in mind: Depending on what you are mixing, there are sometimes recommended minimum amounts of concentrate required no matter what the final volume will be.
Example: If mixing Rodinal, the minimum recommended is 5ml 0. If you were mixing Rodinalyou would need to mix up oz minimum even though the tank might be only 20 oz or so. Whoa, hold on here. I was a little surprised to read some of these answers. Standard laboratory practice for dilution at calls for 1 part diluate to 9 parts diluent. That's what my chemistry textbooks said and how I've always done it photography and other chemistry applications. It's always worked perfectly for me with developers the math is easier too so I'd be interested to find out if I'm the only one doing it this "old fashioned" way.
Rick, and others: when Kodak writes 1:"something", then the "something" is the water part the diluentnot the total. If that was not so, then the development times for "Full Strength Developer" would be the same as for "", but that is not the case as can be seen in Kodaks Technical Data Sheets.
It is then also clear what is meant. But as said, there is a minimum quanmtity of developer needed. I have some tiny graduates, but now I am diabetic and have extra syringes to measure small quantities and oil the electric fan your federal tax dollars at work.
Rick, You are not doing it the "old fashioned" way, you are doing it the "new fashioned" way. You are absolutely correct, your chemistry book has not lead you astray. Unfortunately, photographers came from many different backgrounds and the "old ways" were carried forward to not confuse the non-scientific community. Megan what developer are you using and from a stock or a concentrait? Kodak ven in books from 80 years ago uses a practical ratio; NOT what several others seem to be confused about.
I gues they are just new to? The raio means on part stock plus 10 parts water; not that others are preaching wrongly. Use the actual definition used fro over years in photo work; NOT a tenured slacker in a chem lab with ZERO photo experience; is a duffus.
If a soup cans say 1 part soup plus 1 part water it means just that. Same goes with photo stuff too. One wonders how long a degenerate, formerly informative thread, will now drag on like two drunks scrapping in a parking lot. Thanks Kelly, I feel like pulling my hair now. Switch to metric ml instead of 16 oz and calculate accordingly. What Chuck said. Developing Minox in a tiny canister forced some inventiveness! While playing with my calculator and then dealing with the all the various conversions American, English, metric etc depending on the recipe and the container, I decided to do an easier method and just use a larger measured container and have more solution.
The benefits for me were more consistency of solution and easier temperature control. I would essentially make a "batch. Thus it is with parts.Have you checked out our awesome new premium features?
Essential oils do not become less effective when a carrier oil such as coconut oil, grapeseed oil, or whatever cooking oil available is added, instead it just delays absorption into the skin so there is a longer lasting effect and a larger surface area can be covered than when an oil is used neat undiluted.
Plus, pure EOs evaporate quickly, so a carrier oil will help them stick around longer!

If you have sensitive skin or are elderly, definitely use less EO!!! Use this calculator as an approximate guide, make sure you fill the rest of your roll on with carrier oil if calculating roller bottle drops!
General dilution guidelines for different ages are usually too general, listing a percentage and recommendations such as 1 drop per teaspoon. Lavender requires no dilution for adults and Thieves specifies 4 drops of carrier oil to 1 drop of EO so 1 drop in a teaspoon of carrier oil is not going to be the right amount for both of these oils!
This calculator takes the guesswork out and recommends suggested dilutions based on age and the bottle label. Use anywhere up to that amount, depending on what feels right for you and your family.
Peppermint, eucalyptus, rosemary, and wintergreen should be applied well diluted to bottoms of the feet not the chest area of children 5 and younger with a history of respiratory disorders or seizures. You affirm your understanding that the information provided on this page is a just guide and that individuals will react differently to oils. If you have sensitive skin or are elderly, you should dilute more.
These numbers represent the minimum recommended dilution based on labeled dilution ratio and an arbitrary and approximate age based multiplication formula for children. This site is intended for use with Young Living essential oils only. It is not sponsored by Young Living.

Recommended bleach disinfectant ratio mixed with water for non-food surfaces and food contact surfaces :. Toxic fumes could result. For cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting surfaces such as bathtubs, sinks, faucets, tile, plastic toys, potty chairs, high chairs, changing tables, floors, appliances, countertops, garbage cans, walls, light switches, etc.
Pre-wash surface with detergent and water, then apply the sanitizing solution of bleach and water. Allow solution to contact surface for at least 5 minutes for optimum effectiveness. Afterward, rinse and-or air dry. The Centers for Disease Control recommends a bleach water ratio which produces at least 1, ppm sodium hypochlorite. Therefore the formulas listed above 2, ppm are more than adequate.
Minimum bleach water ratio for Coronavirus:. Never mix household bleach with ammonia or any other cleanser. Unexpired household bleach will be effective against coronaviruses when properly diluted. Pre-wash surface with detergent and water. Then soak with the sanitizing solution of bleach and water. Allow solution to contact surface for at least 2 minutes for optimum effectiveness. Drain and air dry. I have a pair of these for when mixing larger batches of bleach in a gallon bucket for example.
Rather it is much stronger for disinfecting surfaces. TIP: Bleach formula breaks down after awhile. For health care, day care, it is commonly recommended to make new formula in 24 hours.
If you are using Regular Bleach with a higher concentration e. Cleaning removes dust and debris from a surface. Disinfecting kills a variety of germs including bacteria such as Staph, Salmonella and E.
Disinfecting hard, nonporous surfaces is one of the most reliable ways to help lower the risk of spreading these germs from surfaces by touch. During normal household use and disposal, bleach breaks down primarily into salt and water. Bleach does not contaminate ground water because it does not survive sewage treatment — neither in municipal sewage treatment plants nor in septic systems. Without access to healthcare, an infection, if bad enough, can kill you. During a disaster or survival scenario, you are more vulnerable to cuts and injuries.
These could become infected. Prior to the days of antibiotics and disinfection, many people commonly died from infection. When using sanitizing products such as bleach, the CDC recommends the following: "Never mix bleach with ammonia or any other cleaner.
Wear rubber or other non-porous boots, gloves, and eye protection. Try not to breathe in product fumes. If using products indoors, open windows and doors to allow fresh air to enter. The National Capital Poison Center also cites spray bottles as a hazard for children. They specifically state, "Cleaning products in spray bottles are now the leading source of cleaning products that poison children. Most injuries are to the eyes and head. It's important to wash the skin and eyes right away with lots of running water.
When using the bottle for cleaning purposes, the National Capital Poison Center advises that children be kept in a separate room. Chlorine bleach is a product you likely use to clean around the house.
According to Clorox's product page for regular bleach, the product kills So while you should avoid bleach touching the body, you can still use it to disinfect your home. But, should you use it in a spray bottle?
Eric Lee — a medical director of several nursing homes, who also works in the ER and as a medical expert for InvigorMedical. Appropriate bleach use requires creation of a solution so that the ingredient concentration can be controlled. Though a spray bottle isn't recommended, with the coronavirus making headlines, the CDC states that diluted household bleach solutions should be effective when it comes to cleaning and disinfecting to prevent the virus. One should also wear disposable gloves when disinfecting, should dispose of the gloves after each use, and also wash their hands after removing the gloves.
Before using the bleach solution on a surface, you will want to clean the surface using soap and water. Lee adds. Alternatively, when using bleach to clean an area that has been affected by moldthe CDC advises using 1 cup of household bleach in 1 gallon of water.
You can wash affected surfaces with the bleach mixture, use a stiff brush to scrub them if they are rough, rinse the surfaces with clean water, and then allow them to air dry. This creates a solution," Dr.
Lee advises. There are test strips for higher concentrations, but again, a normal person doesn't need to go crazy here. Ultimately, while bleach can be great for disinfecting around the house, it's important that you follow all safety precautions while doing so. Follow Anna on Twitter or Instagram for more.
